Dr. Madhuben Patel
Senior Psychiatrist, Gujrat.
The demise of its life member Dr. Madhuben Patel is a loss deeply mourned by the IPSWZB. Dr. Patel, a senior psychiatrist from Gujarat, was a Past President of the IPSWZB. A humble and down to earth personality, she was academically vibrant and served as post graduate guide and examiner to numerous budding psychiatrists. She had also been the recipient of the prestigious L P Shah Oration Award at the Annual conference of IPS West Zone. IPSWZB offers heartfelt condolences to her family.

Dr Laxman Dutt
Psychiatrist
Dr Laxman Dutt, a brilliant psychiatrist, a sincere teacher and a warm human being have left us all for his heavenly abode. Dr Dutt started his clinical practice inn 1980s and soon become one of the leading name in the field of psychiatry in Gujarat. He was the most loved and adored Emeritus Associate Professor of NHL Municipal Medical College, V S Hospital, Ahmedabad under whom many students took their post graduation in psychiatry and they too were extremely successful in their life. Dr Dutt was known among the students as someone who would support them and stand by them in all the thick and thins of their educational life. Dr Laxman Dutt along with Dr Mrugesh Vaishnav established Gujarat Private Psychiatrist Nursing Home Association in 1998 to fight against problems of private nursing homes. Dr Dutt was a master organizer of various psychiatric events. He has been at the helm of organizing psychiatry updates for 15 years and also organized one of most successful National Conference of IAPP IN 2013.
Dr Laxman Dutt's sudden untimely demise has left a big void in the field of psychiatry in the city of Ahmedabad and Gujarat. Many have lost a dear friend, big brother and a great teacher. May god give enough strength to us and his family to bear this loss.

Dr. Vipul Sanghani

Senior Psychiatrist, Ahmadabad.
Kind hearted and very helpful by nature. He had been the president of IPS Gujrat state branch during the year 2009-2010. He has served as a honorary psychiatrist in ESIS Hospital for many years.

Dr. (Prof.) Priyvadan C. Shastri
DOB: 9TH October 1942
DOD: 18TH January 2016
Dr. (Prof.) Priyvadan C Shastri had been fondly known as Dr PCS among his peers and friends. He was recognized for being prolific contributor a leader in Indian Psychiatry, a stalwart in child & adolescent psychiatry for more than four decades, a great researcher, an excellent academician & versatile teacher & guide to all his grateful students.
Dr. P. C Shastri was a leading psychiatrist currently associated with the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, Balabhai Nanavati Hospital - Mumbai and INS Ashwini Naval Hospital with more than 27 years of past association with B. Y. L. Nair Hospital & T. N. Medical College. His pioneering efforts and contribution in Child Mental Health was quite evident from his more than 44 years of services rendered to Child Guidance Clinics, School Mental Health Clinics and Learning Disability Clinics. He has offered equal attention to Mental Health needs of normal children as well as children in need of special care.

He had served as chairman for several national and international societies. Some prominent ones being – a) Chairman in Child & Adolescent Mental Health WPA Section on Developing Countries, b) Child Psychiatry Section– Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations, c) Child Psychiatry Section – South Asian Forum International, and d) Child Psychiatry Section of Indian Association of Private Psychiatry.

He had served as president of numerous associations and societies such as Indian Psychiatric Society, SAARC Psychiatric Federation, The Research Society for the Care Treatment & Training of Children in Need of Special Care, Maharashtra State Branch of Indian Psychiatric Society, Indian Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Bombay Psychiatric Society, and President of First National Conference of Integrated Sensations - India.

He was the recipient of numerous national and international awards. Dr. V.N.Bagadia Bombay Psychiatric Society Life time achievement Award (2007), Dr. S. M. Lulla Oration Award presented by Bombay Psychiatric Society (1998), Dr. L.P.Shah Oration Award IPS- WZ (2007), V.S.Mani Memorial Oration Award (2009), Dr. Mrs. Dhanalaxmi D’Souza Oration Award (2009), Poona Psychiatric Society Oration Award (IACAM) (2009), DLN MUTHTY RAO ORATION AWARD (2013) and Dr A.P.PATKAR Oration Award (2014) were few of the accolades in his ever flowing trophy cabinet.

His list of achievements is endless. He had held many a prestigious positions (Expert, Advisor, Chairman, and President) at medical societies and associations. He has been an examiner for various University Exams. He has organized 57 conferences, seminars & CMEs and has been part of 320 CME programs with various National & International Organizations. He has been invited for lectures all over India by National and International organizations such as: WHO, UNICEF, UN, WPA, AFPA, & SAFI at various Seminars, Courses, CMEs, Workshops and Training Programs. He has delivered 215 papers & lectures by invitation and has over 114 publications to his credit. He also has contributed chapters in 19 books.

His life was full of passion and commitment for promotion of child mental health. His life was an ongoing journey with never-ending zeal to explore newer avenues, reach more people, sharing knowledge and creating differential impact in Child Mental Health.
